Miles From Home

Clearly nothing’s changed
When I take the steps to walk away
I find that I haven’t moved an inch
You gave me space to breathe
To figure out what’s underneath
I need to know just what I can be

Clearly nothing’s changed
When I take the steps to walk away
I find that I haven’t moved an inch
You gave me space to breathe
To figure out what’s underneath
I need to know just what I can be

The rope doesn’t hold the strength it once did
Us became only you or I who can live
The bridge is shaking, ready to flip
& the troubling water below will engulf me

This has taken its toll, I’m done walking this road
The one that lead me further from where I have to go
Just a long detour, circling the path I’ve come to known
Instead I’ll follow the street signs until I’m miles from home

Happiness engraved
Into a locket around my neck
It strangles me with “I love you”
You gave it long ago
Back when you were all I’d known
& now I need to just let it be

The waves crash higher than my hopes
As I stare into the great unknown
The scale says “error”, it just can’t read
The weight of the world on my shoulders

This has taken its toll, I’m done walking this road
The one that lead me further from where I have to go
Just a long detour, circling the path I’ve come to known
Instead I’ll follow the street signs until I’m miles from home

I’m going to breathe new air
I’m going to see new sights
Feel the wind in my hair
Never go down without a fight
I’m leaving it all behind
I’m sure that I’ll be fine

This has taken its toll, I’m done walking this road
The one that lead me further from where I have to go
Just a long detour, circling the path I’ve come to known
Instead I’ll follow the street signs until I’m miles from home
